US Central Command reported that the two-hour morning operation hit military command centers, missile and drone facilities, and coastal surveillance sites.
Iranian state media reported strikes on Qeshm island in the Strait of Hormuz and explosions across Khuzestan province.
Escalation Across Multiple Fronts
The offensive followed a combined US and Saudi military action in neighboring Iraq on Wednesday that killed at least 20 fighters and six Iranian advisers.
That operation responded to two days of Houthi drone strikes on Saudi crude facilities and an Iranian missile barrage aimed at US troops in Jordan.
Jordanian military authorities confirmed Thursday that their defense forces successfully intercepted five Iranian missiles aimed at the kingdom, reporting no casualties from the attempt.
Addressing reporters at an Oval Office event on Wednesday, US President Donald Trump signaled the impending military action after a temporary pause in direct hostilities between the two nations.
"We're going to be hitting them very hard, because it's our turn to hit them. They know it's coming," Trump said.
