Subaru's WRX has made a remarkable comeback in 2026, with July sales more than tripling compared to the same month last year.

The brand delivered 54,454 vehicles in July, a modest 0.8 percent increase overall, but the standout performer was the WRX.

WRX sales jumped 214.7 percent to 1,438 units, extending a strong run that saw June sales quadruple year-over-year.

This turnaround comes after years of lukewarm demand and criticism over styling and performance.

What Drove the Surge?

Subaru's decision to reintroduce a base model at $32,495 made the most affordable WRX $5,255 cheaper than last year's entry point.

Additionally, prices across the rest of the range were cut by between $2,710 and nearly $4,000.

These moves have clearly resonated with buyers, who are rediscovering the WRX as an affordable performance hero.

While the WRX celebrates, its close relative, the Impreza, suffered a sales collapse of almost 40 percent, with just 1,458 units sold.

The WRX came within 20 units of matching the Impreza's sales, highlighting a shift in buyer preference toward the sportier model.

The Forester also delivered a stellar performance, with sales climbing 33.5 percent to 15,873 units, making it Subaru's bestselling model for the seventh consecutive month.

The Ascent enjoyed a healthy month, but the Solterra saw a significant decline.

The Solterra's drop is partly attributed to the arrival of two new electric models, the Uncharted and Trailseeker, as well as the loss of federal EV tax credits.

The Outback, redesigned for 2026, fell 7.1 percent to 13,917 units as buyers transition to the new generation.
