The Royal Mint has unveiled a commemorative 50p coin to mark 100 years of Grand Prix racing in Britain.
It is the first time motorsport has been featured on official UK coinage.
The coin was launched on Monday, June 29, 2026, at the historic Brooklands circuit in Weybridge, Surrey. The venue hosted the inaugural British Grand Prix in August 1926.
Designed in collaboration with London agency Interstate, the coin's reverse shows a 1926 Grand Prix car alongside a modern 2026 Formula 1 machine.
This illustrates a century of technological evolution.
Selected editions include a colorized Union Jack design.
Prices start at £15 for the Brilliant Uncirculated version and go up to £2,420 for the limited gold proof coin.
High traffic is expected on the Royal Mint's website following the launch.
Collectors can also strike their own coin at The Royal Mint Experience from July 7 to August 2, 2026.
Historic Celebration
Rebecca Morgan, Director at The Royal Mint, said Grand Prix racing has captured the nation's imagination for a century, from Brooklands to Silverstone.
She called the coin a landmark for the Mint.
The coin joins other 2026 annual sets commemorating Queen Elizabeth II, HMS Beagle, and The King's Trust.
Morgan described it as a must-have piece of history for collectors and Formula 1 fans.
A sold-out anniversary event will be held at Brooklands Museum on Saturday, August 8, 2026. It will feature over 100 historic and modern Grand Prix cars.
