Indian lawmakers used popular Gen Z internet slang during a Lok Sabha debate on a new anti-exam leak bill on Tuesday.
The session followed nationwide student demonstrations led by the Cockroach Janta Party.
The debate over punitive measures against paper leaks came after a week-long washout of Lok Sabha proceedings.
Youth-led protests against examination irregularities had previously forced the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
Slang Exchange in Parliament
Shiv Sena MP Shrikant Shinde accused opposition members of missing in action. He used the acronym "MIA" during the proceedings.
Shinde added that the opposition was gripped by the fear of missing out. He said "FOMO" to describe their stance.
He further criticized opposition lawmakers for being detached from reality. He called them "delulu."
Congress leader Deepender Singh Hooda invoked a popular protest catchphrase. He said "waste-guna-huiya" to criticize the government's response.
Ruling BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj defended the legislation. She asserted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had "clocked it" regarding exam leaks.
Fellow BJP MP Tejasvi Surya also addressed the opposition. He echoed earlier claims by calling them "delulu."
Opposition leader Supriya Sule paused outside the chamber to comment on the unusual vocabulary. She asked, "Why are we getting into the lingo of Gen Z?"
Sule later used the term "delulu" herself during the debate.
Sonu Sood Criticizes Kangana Ranaut
Actor Sonu Sood publicly criticized remarks by BJP MP Kangana Ranaut. Ranaut had targeted student demonstrators on social media over their protest videos at Jantar Mantar.
Sood said he had not heard her statement but felt that young people are the ones who make actors.
He stressed that public support remains essential for any professional's success.
He added that as long as people stand by you, you will continue to thrive. If they are not with you, it becomes difficult.
Sood highlighted that public engagement gives purpose to a figure's platform. He said existence has meaning only as long as people are connected with you.
When informed that Ranaut had used derogatory terms for the youth movement, Sood called it shameful. He said it should not have been said.
He urged public figures to weigh their words before speaking. He noted that the public is another form of God.
Ranaut's original posts criticized the student demonstrators.
She wrote that she had never seen so much ugliness in one place, calling the protest reels "puke-inducing."
She alleged that demonstrators proudly flaunt their freedom to have drugs and drinks. She said they shamelessly live off their parents' earnings.
Ranaut labeled the youth demographic "Generation Gutter." She claimed some have nothing to offer the system and are not good at studies.
The protest movement has pressed for the withdrawal of police cases against student leaders.
An anonymous demonstrator noted that adopting internet slang in parliament fails to address core demands for systemic reform.
