Manchester United is preparing an opening move to sign Newcastle United left-back Lewis Hall, following the departure of manager Eddie Howe from St. James' Park, according to reports from TEAMtalk and the Mirror.
Technical director Jason Wilcox is driving United's interest in the 21-year-old England international, who is currently valued at £60 million.
The Old Trafford hierarchy views Hall as a long-term successor to Luke Shaw in the left-back position.
Hall completed a £35 million transfer to Newcastle from Chelsea in 2023 and is under contract until 2029.
He registered 46 appearances for the Magpies last season and has earned four senior caps for England.
Newcastle has already sold key squad members Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali during the current transfer window, while midfielder Bruno Guimaraes remains heavily linked with a potential move to Arsenal.
Alternative Targets and Other Moves
United has identified 19-year-old Racing Santander defender Jorge Salinas as an alternative target should a deal for Hall fail to materialize.
Salinas recently helped Spain win the UEFA European Under-19 Championship in Wales.
Barcelona remains in discussions with Racing Santander over Salinas, with Racing demanding €16 million while Barcelona offers €8 million.
United continues to monitor Barcelona left-back Alejandro Balde as another option.
In other squad moves, Manchester United confirmed the permanent transfer of 21-year-old defender Tyler Fredricson to Swiss Super League club Lausanne-Sport.
"Tyler Fredricson has agreed a permanent transfer to Lausanne-Sport, subject to registration.
A lifelong Red from south Manchester, he worked diligently while proudly rising through the ranks of our world-famous youth system," Manchester United said in an official statement.
The club praised the center-back's professional development during his time in the youth ranks.
"Joining the club at Under-9 level, Tyler has been a model professional throughout his time with the club and a popular member of our Academy squads.
His place in United's history books is also secured as a recipient of the prestigious Denzil Haroun Reserve-Team Player of the Year award in 2025," the club statement added.
United wished the defender success in his next career step following Lausanne's appointment of head coach Luka Elsner.
"Lausanne finished ninth in the Swiss Super League last season, and they hope to progress this term following July's appointment of new head coach Luka Elsner.
Everybody at United thanks Tyler for all his efforts during his time with the club and we wish him all the best for the next chapter of his career," the club stated.
Meanwhile, agent Mario Jara confirmed that Manchester United previously made inquiries regarding 26-year-old Paraguay goalkeeper Orlando Gill, who is leaving Argentine club San Lorenzo.
"We are in talks with English clubs as well as clubs in Germany. There were enquiries with Manchester United," Jara said in an interview with DSports Radio.
Negotiations for the goalkeeper's transfer remain ongoing with interested suitors.
"We only received two concrete offers. We are currently in the negotiation phase.
The sale is close, the time is right. We have to handle it very carefully because there are many things involved.
It's ideal for him to take a step up in quality. He's prepared and capable of playing in any league, without a doubt," Jara stated.
The agent confirmed efforts to wrap up the deal swiftly for all parties involved.
"We're trying to finalise it as quickly as possible for everyone's benefit. It would be very important for San Lorenzo; hopefully, it will come to fruition," Jara added.
United instead finalized the signing of former Leeds United goalkeeper Karl Darlow as back-up behind Senne Lammens, alongside summer midfield arrivals Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans for a combined £85 million.
