El Salvador head coach Hernan Dario "Bolillo" Gomez expects a tight Concacaf Nations League match against Guatemala on Monday at El Trebol stadium.
Gomez said La Selecta is not overconfident despite its recent victory against Martinique.
"It has always been a very tight match. They have been very difficult games for us.
We have always had great respect for Guatemala because of their capacity, their coaches, and their players," Gomez said.
The Colombian manager also clarified the standard required to establish true dominance on the field.
"We are looking for hierarchy, and hierarchy is not given to you by one match.
To have hierarchy, out of 10 matches you have to win eight," Gomez said.
Gomez dismissed concerns about potential adverse weather conditions in Guatemala City, saying both squads must adapt to whatever surface conditions arise.
"It doesn't matter. The pitch will be the same for both.
We have to overcome heat, rain, mud, everything," Gomez said.
On squad availability, the manager confirmed that three key players remain uncertain for the upcoming match day due to physical ailments.
"They are recovering, they are not yet determined for tomorrow. Let's hope they improve, as there is still time today," Gomez said.
Gomez addressed the ongoing pressure surrounding his team, noting that external skepticism remains regardless of recent positive outcomes.
"We cannot live off what is said, but off what we work on.
What Guatemala is experiencing today, we are experiencing too, even though we won, there is no credibility," Gomez said.
Gomez concluded his remarks by highlighting the need to maintain focus internally as the squad prepares for the intense regional fixture at Manuel Felipe Carrera Stadium.
"We have to isolate ourselves a little bit from that and isolate the boys," Gomez said.
