Ukraine has deployed its FP-7 tactical ballistic missile in combat for the first time, President Volodymyr Zelenskiy announced on Thursday via Telegram.
Zelenskiy wrote, "Ukrainian tactical ballistic missile FP-7. First combat use," expressing satisfaction with the initial operation.
He signaled plans for scaled manufacturing but did not disclose the target or strike location.
"Thank you for the result. Next - production," Zelenskiy added.
Domestic Missile Push
Ukraine has prioritized building domestic tactical missile capabilities to counter continuous Russian ballistic missile bombardments.
Earlier this year, Zelenskiy praised initial test firings, citing strong operational potential for field deployment.
Defense analysts describe the FP-7 as a short-range system capable of reaching targets approximately 200 kilometers (125 miles) away.
Manufacturer Fire Point is designing the weapon as a ballistic interceptor under the newly launched European missile defense initiative, Freyja.
National Security and Defence Council Deputy Secretary Davyd Aloian stated in July that Ukrainian officials aim to complete a prototype for the Freyja European anti-ballistic system in the first half of next year, as reported by Reuters.
