One plaintiff, Micah Prochaska, bought a used 2017 Mazda CX-9 in 2018.
In 2025, he says the front passenger seat scorched a jacket left on it and left a burn hole in the seat itself.
Another plaintiff, Patrick Sandoval from California, alleges he suffered several burns on his legs and buttocks from the seat warmer.
Sandoval has neuropathy, which limits feeling in his lower extremities, and the lawsuit claims the heat aggravated a prior spinal injury.

Models and Scope of the Lawsuit
The lawsuit covers 2016-2017 Mazda CX-9, 2018 Mazda6, 2024 Mazda CX-30, 2023 Mazda CX-50, and 2023 Mazda CX-5 models.
It alleges that up to 301,549 vehicles may need repairs.
Based on repair estimates, the lawsuit claims Mazda could be liable for up to $662,492,128.17.
The plaintiffs argue that Mazda has long known about the heated seat issues but failed to warn owners.
This is not the first such lawsuit against Mazda in the US.
