James elaborated that the difference in the series came down to available personnel rather than a lack of competitive spirit.

"I feel like we were just out-talented by OKC. They just possess so much more talent," James said.

Ring Culture and Context

James challenged the broader media narrative that measures every NBA season solely by championship results.

"You get caught up in ring culture and things of that nature, but at the end of the day there's 29 teams if that's the case, all failures if that's always the narrative," James said.

He pointed out that only one team achieves the ultimate goal each year, making context necessary when evaluating postseason outcomes.

"Because it's only one champion every year," James said.

James stated that while execution fluctuated, the Lakers managed to outplay the Thunder intellectually during certain stretches of the series.

"They might've had a couple more possessions where IQ could kick in but that happens throughout the course of a game," James said.

"That goes for both teams.

I feel like there were times where we out IQ'd them so at the end of the day, we failed in 'talent.'

OKC just possessed so much more talent than us," James said.

The veteran forward credited the opposition while noting that his team was severely short-handed without Doncic.

"You can tip your cap to them, obviously, in understanding that. But you can't get caught up in that, especially when you know you were undermanned," James said.
