Rest and Momentum
The Hurricanes have had 11 days of rest since eliminating the Philadelphia Flyers, setting a modern NHL record for playoff rest.
The Canadiens, meanwhile, enter the matchup with only two days of rest after securing a 3-2 overtime victory against the Buffalo Sabres on Monday.
Carolina can become the second team in NHL history to open the Stanley Cup Playoffs with nine consecutive postseason victories, a feat previously achieved by the 1985 Edmonton Oilers.
The Hurricanes are also seeking to advance past the Eastern Final for the first time since winning the Stanley Cup in 2006.
"I don't know.
I'm kind of over all that, to be honest," said Rod Brind'Amour, Carolina Hurricanes coach, regarding past conference final eliminations.
Brind'Amour emphasized that the team is focused entirely on the current matchup rather than historical playoff struggles.
"There's enough to worry about without worrying about the past. I think we've taken a lot of things from it but that didn't just come now.
We've been using that all year, ever since last playoffs. I know it's not an issue with us.
It's not a thought. But you learn from the past.
