The return of center William Karlsson from a nearly six-month injury absence has transformed the Vegas Golden Knights' top six forward group during the 2026 postseason.
Head coach John Tortorella established a highly productive second line by pairing Karlsson with Mitch Marner and Brett Howden.

Vegas initially placed Karlsson alongside Tomas Hertl and Keegan Kolesar for the opening two games against the Anaheim Ducks in the Second Round.
The Golden Knights secured one victory with that combination, but inconsistent play prompted coaching adjustments as the series progressed.
"When Bill came back, we tried it, and yeah, I don't know.
Coaches just try different things and if something sticks, it's usually two guys that can play well with one another.
That one kind of had some glue to it right away," Tortorella said.
Following that initial experiment, the coaching staff paired Karlsson with Marner and inserted Howden on the left wing for Game 3.
The trio has remained together for five consecutive games, emerging as a highly effective unit in the ongoing Stanley Cup playoffs.
"Just have confidence with whoever you're out there with.
My big thing is always just trying to talk and make sure people know where I am, and I want to know where they are as well to try to make those plays.

So, I think we've done a really good job of that. We've got to continue to do it because it's just going to get harder," Marner said.
