The 24-year-old has been promoted to the team's starting number one position. This follows the departure of former Werder Bremen goalkeeper Mio Backhaus to SC Freiburg.
Hein initially joined the club on loan from Arsenal last summer.
He made two Bundesliga appearances before a hand injury in March sidelined him for the remainder of the season.
The Estonian international has fully recovered from the injury.
