He noted that a virtual safety car might be preferable to maintain some speed.

"I think it is the perfect storm because we have cold temperatures and a low energy circuit. If it rains here, it will be complicated.

We never had these conditions.

We never designed the tyres for these conditions, because it's very cold, and it can be tricky," said Berra.

Berra added that the deeper tread depth of the full wet compound might retain heat better than intermediates.

He acknowledged that the wet tyre could, for once, be faster than the intermediate.

The weekend has already seen high drama during sprint sessions, where Mercedes locked out the front row. George Russell secured sprint pole ahead of teammate Kimi Antonelli.

The close on-track battle caused friction between the teammates, prompting Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff to intervene over the radio.

Russell defended his actions, stating he raced hard but fair.

Antonelli, who currently leads Russell by 20 points in the world championship standings, emphasized team cohesion after the sprint event.

He stressed that the main thing was avoiding contact.

Prior to qualifying, Russell dismissed speculation regarding internal garage friction following a difficult previous round in Miami.

He noted that it was still early in the season and that fortunes can change quickly.

Incidents disrupted early practice sessions. Liam Lawson suffered power steering failure, drawing a 30,000 euro part-suspended fine for Racing Bulls.
