Victoria Premier Jacinta Allan confirmed a state memorial service will be held to honor Daniher's contributions.
Former Melbourne captain David Neitz said Daniher inspired an army of people to continue the fight.
“The bloody beast has won this battle today, but the battle’s going to continue,” Neitz said, echoing Daniher's famous words: “Play on.”
Essendon President Andrew Welsh recalled Daniher as one of the most gifted young footballers in the country, whose career was defined by courage.
The Daniher family expressed gratitude to the community and medical teams who supported them.
