The best-of-seven series now stands at 2-1 in favor of Carolina.

Carolina entered the contest following a 3-2 overtime victory on Saturday night to level the series.

Montreal returned home after failing to win consecutive games this postseason, despite previous road wins in Game 7 matchups against Tampa Bay and Buffalo.

Nikolaj Ehlers, the Hurricanes' offseason addition, carried his team in Game 2 with two goals, including the game-winner at 3:29 of overtime.

The play developed when defenseman Jalen Chatfield bounced the puck back to Mark Jankowski, who redirected it to a fast-moving Ehlers for a clean look at the net.

Defensive Pressure Key

Carolina's aggressive forecheck and defensive pressure limited Montreal to just 12 shots on goal in Game 2.

The Hurricanes successfully suffocated the Canadiens' top line of Cole Caufield, Nick Suzuki, and Juraj Slafkovsky, holding them to a combined four shots on net.

Canadiens winger Josh Anderson served as a veteran anchor for the league's youngest playoff roster, ranking second on the team with five postseason goals.

Anderson scored twice in Game 2, including the tying goal at 12:51 of the third period to force overtime.

"It's been an emotional roller-coaster, honestly," said Anderson, a 32-year-old forward.

Canadiens goaltender Jakub Dobes made 23 saves in the Game 2 defeat but could not stop the final sudden-death sequence.
