The Carolina Hurricanes defeated the Montreal Canadiens 4-0 in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Finals on May 28, 2026, at the Bell Centre in Montreal.

The home team was held scoreless despite intense crowd pressure.

Early Dominance Seals the Game

The Hurricanes established dominance early by scoring three goals in less than three minutes during the first period.

Sebastian Aho, Jordan Staal, and Logan Stankoven all beat Canadiens goaltender Jakub Dobes.

Carolina heavily outshot Montreal 43-18 in the game, preventing the Canadiens from establishing offensive momentum.

Frustrated fans at the Bell Centre began chanting for more offensive pressure with 7:20 remaining in the third period.

Canadiens head coach Martin St-Louis addressed the crowd reaction after the game.

"Shoot the puck, shoot the puck, shoot the puck," the crowd chanted loudly during the final minutes.

"When that happens, you have to stand up," St-Louis said in French, translated as "shoot the puck." "This sport forces you to stay humble.

It's not pleasant when you hear that, but they weren't wrong."

St-Louis adjusted his offensive lines for the final two periods after the early 3-0 deficit, but Montreal managed only three shots in the third period.

"You can always make adjustments, but it takes execution," St-Louis said. "It takes game reading and execution in everything we do.

We lack that."

Canadiens defenseman Lane Hutson expressed harsh criticism of the team's performance. "I feel like the only guy who showed up to play this game is 'Doby,'" Hutson said.

"We weren't good enough. We didn't answer the challenge.

But the good news is we'll have another chance."

Hutson summarized the performance directly when asked for further explanations. "Not really, but we don't need an explanation.

Crap. A crap game," he said.

Goaltender Jakub Dobes kept the score at 4-0 by making a spectacular save against William Carrier in the final seconds.
