AC Milan forward Rafael Leao has decided to reject a summer move to the Premier League, despite strong interest from Manchester United, according to reports from May 30, 2026.

The 26-year-old Portuguese winger was on Manchester United's shortlist as the club freed up £250 million for summer transfers.

AC Milan's stance softened after failing to qualify for the Champions League, making Leao available for a cut-price deal around £43 million.

However, Italian publication Gazzetta dello Sport revealed that Leao has communicated his definitive decision directly to club advisor Zlatan Ibrahimovic: he wants to stay.

Leao's Difficult Season and Commitment to Milan

Leao endured a challenging 2025/26 campaign at Milanello, losing substantial support from the home crowd after previously being valued above £100 million.

He felt upset and disappointed by the treatment from fans but does not believe his career is over.

He told Ibrahimovic he wants to put the most difficult season behind him and return to being a key player for the squad.

The forward is reportedly eager to rediscover his smile and form at the club.

Now, two key questions remain: who will be the next coach, and what that coach thinks of Leao.

Meanwhile, other European clubs are adjusting their transfer plans.
