Carolina initially held a 2-0 advantage before Vegas rallied to lead 3-2.

After the Hurricanes equalized twice, Hertl broke the final tie after executing a give-and-go play alongside Colton Sissons.

The goal ended a 29-game goal drought for Hertl that dated back to the regular season.

Hurricanes Struggle Against Forecheck

The Hurricanes struggled against the Golden Knights' forecheck, which mirrored the defensive pressure Carolina typically inflicts on its opponents.

Both teams committed multiple turnovers during the matchup, forcing coaches to address mistakes ahead of the next game.

"We didn't handle the pressure particularly well," said Hurricanes coach Rod Brind'Amour.

Brind'Amour expressed dissatisfaction with the performance of his top offensive line, consisting of Sebastian Aho, Andrei Svechnikov, and Seth Jarvis, who missed key scoring opportunities.

"They had one good shift in the third there," Brind'Amour said. "Everybody has to play well if you're going to win at this time of year.

Your best guys have to get on the scoresheet."

Hertl registered three assists alongside his game-winning goal, finished with a plus-3 rating, and blocked two shots to anchor the Vegas offense.
