Afghanistan fast bowler Mohammad Saleem made history on Day 2 of the one-off Test against India in Mullanpur, claiming a six-wicket haul on June 7, 2026.

The 23-year-old pacer became only the third Afghan bowler to take a five-wicket haul in Test cricket, joining Ziaur Rahman and Nijat Masood.

Saleem finished with figures of 6 for 140 from 27 overs, despite India declaring their first innings at 564 for 8 on a docile surface.

He struck early on Day 1, dismissing opener Yashasvi Jaiswal for 24 and B Sai Sudharsan for 81.

Saleem then removed Indian captain Shubman Gill, caught behind for 126 off 177 balls.

He clean-bowled Dhruv Jurel with a delivery that jagged back sharply, before securing his five-wicket haul by dismissing Manav Suthar for 28.

His sixth wicket came when he removed Mohammed Siraj for 22.

India's total was built around KL Rahul's century (100 off 165 balls), a half-century from Washington Sundar (52), and Rishabh Pant's 81.

Ziaur Rahman and Hashmatullah Shahidi took one wicket each for Afghanistan.

At the end of Day 2, Afghanistan trailed by over 500 runs heading into their first innings.
