Audi Formula 1 team principal Mattia Binotto has officially ruled out a pursuit of four-time world champion Max Verstappen, stating the factory outfit is not yet ready to provide a championship-caliber platform.

Binotto addressed the rumors during a podcast interview broadcast in June 2026, responding directly to questions about Audi's willingness to sign the Red Bull driver.

Speculation about Verstappen's future had escalated during the 2026 season due to Red Bull Racing's performance struggles.

The Dutchman secured only one podium finish in the opening five races and finished third in Canada.

Audi's Long-Term Strategy

Binotto emphasized that Audi would not participate in the driver market battle, noting that current drivers Gabriel Bortoleto and Nico Hulkenberg hold long-term contracts.

“If Max were to sign, you must provide him a platform where he can fight for victories,” Binotto said.

The team principal noted that the organization remains satisfied with its current driver lineup during this transitional phase.

“At this moment, I am very happy with the drivers we have,” Binotto added.

Binotto expressed satisfaction with the rapid development of the R26 chassis, claiming Audi currently possesses the fourth-strongest chassis in Formula 1 based on internal telemetry and driver feedback.

“I am particularly satisfied with the chassis. Not only the data, but also the feedback from our drivers confirms that picture,” Binotto said.
