"I wish they would like just renovate what's there and maybe just do something cool that kind of fits this area a little more than like this giant gamer hotel," said Valverde.

Arts and music community members argue that the scale of the project compromises the distinct character that originally defined the district.

"It was very autonomous, locally driven art space," said Briannin Gross, a booker and promoter.

Gross explained that the grassroots nature of the area ultimately drew heavy commercial interest, altering its core atmosphere.

"But then that attracted investors, developers, businessmen, the nightlife district," said Gross.

Expressing concern over the long-term impact on local heritage, Gross emphasized that the project symbolizes a wider trend of displacement.

"It's sad to see that history erased," said Gross.

Gross lamented the shift in the neighborhood's direction as construction plans progress.

"We want Roosevelt back and the hotel getting built is just a huge sign of us losing it," said Gross.

com, the restaurant space inside the Brick Hotel in Newtown Borough is undergoing comprehensive renovations by crews following a prolonged vacancy caused by a landlord dispute regarding a liquor license.

Local realtor Madeline Jones shared an update regarding the future of the vacant dining space via social media.

"Coming Soon! Donatelli's," posted Madeline Jones, a local realtor.

Jones indicated that extensive structural work is currently underway inside the historic property to prepare for the launch.
