"At the Marriott Puerto Vallarta we have appropriate signage, as well as night patrolling and red flags to indicate caution in the area and all were and are properly in place."

Hotel representatives stated that the establishment routinely coordinates with local management teams and maintains safety training for all personnel.

"We review our plans and procedures often and work closely with the appropriate authorities on an ongoing basis and our staff is trained in how to respond to safety matters appropriately," the resort said.

The hotel management expressed condolences to the family of the deceased tourist following the incident.

"We extend our thoughts to the individual and their loved ones during this difficult time and are providing appropriate support in line with our policies," the resort said.

Following the recovery operation, the Jalisco Civil Defense and the Human-Crocodile Working Group confirmed that the crocodile suspected in the attack was captured near the area.

Government officials stated that rising water levels from the June rainy season cause American crocodiles to move from estuaries and canals toward coastal beaches.
