Tottenham Hotspur have reached a club-record agreement to sign midfielder Mateus Fernandes from West Ham United for £85 million, according to The Guardian.
The deal, finalized on June 30, 2026, sees Tottenham beat rivals Manchester United to the Portuguese star's signature.

Fernandes is scheduled to undergo a medical examination before finalizing his contract with the North London club.
Strengthening the Squad
The acquisition bolsters the central midfield options for manager Roberto De Zerbi, who received substantial summer backing after Tottenham narrowly escaped relegation last season.
Fernandes attracted interest from Manchester United, Arsenal, and Real Madrid, but Tottenham was the only suitor willing to meet West Ham's financial demands.

The £85 million fee is the highest ever generated by a Championship club, providing a financial boost to West Ham following their recent relegation to the second tier.
The windfall comes amid financial pressures for West Ham, which recorded a £104.2 million loss last year, ahead of an expected capital injection from incoming major shareholder Daniel Kretinsky.
