The Vancouver Canucks have signed veteran defenseman Luke Schenn to a one-year, $2.25 million contract, the team announced Wednesday.
The move brings the 36-year-old back to Vancouver for his third stint with the franchise.

Schenn previously played for the Canucks during the 2018-19 season and from 2021 to 2023.
Veteran Presence for Young Core
General manager Ryan Johnson highlighted Schenn's leadership and mentorship as key factors in the signing.
The defenseman is expected to start the season on the third pairing and contribute to the penalty kill.
Schenn split last season between the Winnipeg Jets and Buffalo Sabres.

In 50 games, he recorded one goal, six assists, 43 penalty minutes, 149 hits, and 57 blocks while averaging under 14 minutes of ice time.
Standing 6-foot-2 and weighing 225 pounds, the Saskatoon native has played 1,122 career NHL games across 10 teams.
Originally drafted fifth overall by the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2008, Schenn won back-to-back Stanley Cups with the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2020 and 2021.
His career also includes stops in Philadelphia, Los Angeles, Arizona, Anaheim, and Nashville.

In addition to Schenn, Vancouver signed former New Jersey Devils winger Paul Cotter to a one-year contract on the same day.
