Belgian media group DPG Media has acquired the Dutch division of Viaplay for €142 million, marking a significant expansion into sports broadcasting for its streaming service Videoland.
The deal, announced on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, will bring Viaplay's major sports rights—including Formula 1, Premier League football, and Professional Darts Corporation events—under the Videoland umbrella.

Videoland, previously known for domestic films, series, and reality shows, will now enter the sports streaming market through this acquisition.
Regulatory Approval Pending
The transaction is subject to review and approval by regulatory authorities.
According to a press release from Viaplay Group, the acquisition is expected to be finalized within the coming months.
Existing Viaplay subscribers will continue to have uninterrupted access to their subscriptions and the digital application for the time being, DPG Media confirmed.

All 50 employees of Viaplay Netherlands will transfer to DPG Media as part of the deal.
Strategic Divestment
The sale aligns with Viaplay Group's strategy to focus on its core Scandinavian markets amid ongoing financial challenges.
The company reported a loss of over €45 million last year and a decline of 400,000 subscribers across its Dutch and Scandinavian operations.
