The winner secured a spot in the next round against either Colombia or Ghana on Tuesday.
Swiss fans reached 124 decibels inside the stadium before the 8 p. m.
kickoff, while Algerian supporters registered 133 decibels on the venue's big screen.
Switzerland played its second match at BC Place, having defeated Canada 2-1 in a group stage game on June 24, 2026.
Adam Vorberg, a Vancouver resident with partial Swiss heritage, chose to back Switzerland for the matchup. He attended the June 24 game hoping for a Canadian victory.
"It was a great game, but not the results that we wanted. Still, we're here to cheer on Switzerland now," said Vorberg.

Local resident Ivan Tsang attended the fixture as his first-ever World Cup match. Although he originally wanted to watch Canada, he appreciated the stadium atmosphere.
"When else are you going to experience a World Cup in Vancouver? It's probably once-in-a-lifetime, so why not?"
asked Tsang.
Tsang supported Algeria during the match and noted the tournament has progressed quickly. "I've watched pretty much every game," he said.
Tsang admitted mixed emotions as Vancouver nears the end of its hosting run. "It feels kind of sad, but exciting at the same time," said Tsang.
