Federal authorities have raised security for National Mall events to the highest level, while pyrotechnicians prepare a record-breaking fireworks display for the United States' 250th anniversary on Independence Day.

For the first time, the annual Fourth of July fireworks on the National Mall have been designated a National Special Security Event, placing security on par with presidential inaugurations.

FBI Co-Deputy Director Christopher Raia said the vast majority of agency resources are dedicated to protecting citizens and visitors at major celebrations nationwide.

Raia highlighted concerns about lone offenders and unauthorized drones during the festivities.

He noted that new defensive technology allows authorities to intercept drones and redirect them, either back to their pilot or to a designated safe zone.

Security measures in Washington include 19 miles of anti-scale fencing, 3.5 miles of road closures, and radiological scanning by the National Nuclear Security Administration.

Administrator Brandon Williams confirmed that airborne and ground teams are actively monitoring for radiological threats.

Record-Breaking Fireworks Display

Pyrotecnico, a Western Pennsylvania company, plans to launch over 850,000 pyrotechnic devices over 40 minutes from 10 locations in Washington, D.

C. , aiming to break the Guinness World Record for the largest fireworks display.

Regional Director Chris Mele said the scale of the show is unprecedented for the company.

Planning involved extensive coordination with numerous government departments since February, including the National Park Service, FAA, Coast Guard, and Secret Service.

The operation requires 35 tractor-trailers of equipment to prepare eight barges on the Potomac River and the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool.

CEO Stephen Vitale explained that the 40-minute show required an expanded crew, including international pyrotechnicians from Germany, Australia, England, and Spain.

Vitale expressed hope that the record-breaking attempt would bring pride to their home community of New Castle.
