A heavy moisture surge is expected to disrupt the regions, prompting the National Weather Service to institute a flood watch starting at 12 p.

m. for numerous counties surrounding Philadelphia.

A separate watch for Washington, D. C.

Meteorologists noted that skies started out cloudy and humid, with temperatures rising toward the upper 80s, fueling severe storm developments during the afternoon and evening hours.

The principal hazards include excessive runoff that could overwhelm local creeks and streams, alongside localized damaging wind gusts.

Steve Rudin, 7News First Alert Meteorologist, said during an earlier briefing that the metro area does not have a flood watch, but there could be a few showers and heavier downpours late in the evening.

He added that temperatures will drop to the upper 60s to middle 70s by early Friday morning as a cold front approaches the eastern coast.

Weather conditions are projected to remain active through Friday afternoon with additional chances for isolated strong thunderstorms.
