Assistant Chief Constable Matt Longman confirmed that detectives are not seeking any other suspects in connection with the case.
He stated that there is no evidence suggesting the murder was politically motivated.
Widdecombe, 78, was found dead in her home in Haytor, Devon, on Thursday.
She had sustained serious injuries, and authorities believe she may have been deceased for more than 24 hours before her body was discovered.
During a press conference on Sunday, Longman said officers are keeping an open mind regarding the motive but emphasized that the incident is not being treated as terrorism-related.
