Justices Share Personal Security Concerns
Barrett detailed how her security changed after the draft of the Dobbs decision was leaked in 2022.
Her security detail sent her home with a bulletproof vest, which her 12-year-old son saw.
"I didn't expect that performing this service was going to put me in the position of explaining to my children what a bulletproof vest was and why I had to wear one," she said.
Barrett also disclosed that her residence was recently targeted in a swatting prank.
Her teenage son opened the door to find police cars responding to a false report of gunshots.
She credited the permanent Supreme Court police presence at her home with quickly resolving the situation.
Both justices stated they do not know the source of the 2022 Dobbs leak. Kagan said the threat of public exposure stifles internal debates.
