A mysterious Toyota prototype has been photographed alongside the Land Cruiser GR Sport, potentially revealing the first fully electric Land Cruiser with a unibody chassis.

The image was shared on Facebook by Andrea Carlucci, Toyota Europe’s Director of Marketing and Product Strategy, with the caption “THE Legend evolves …#Land Cruiser #Tahara What a team !!”

The photo was taken at Toyota’s Tahara manufacturing facility in Japan, which produces the Land Cruiser 250 Series, Lexus GX, and Toyota 4Runner.

The camouflaged prototype features cutouts for headlights and cooling intakes, with design cues consistent with the Land Cruiser Se concept from 2023.

However, it includes a new opening on the nose and appears to have slightly lower ground clearance than the current 300 Series.

The wheels resemble those of the Century SUV, though they may be for testing purposes only.

Unibody Platform and Electric Powertrain

The Land Cruiser Se concept measured 5,150 mm long with a 3,050 mm wheelbase, making it 35 mm longer than the 300 Series with an extra 200 mm between axles.

The production version may retain similar proportions.

The prototype likely rides on the TNGA-K unibody architecture, which is expected underpin the electric Land Cruiser.

This platform could use e-TNGA or an evolved version, potentially making it the best-handling Land Cruiser yet, though off-road capability may be reduced compared to ladder-frame models.

A battery-electric setup is expected to outperform current ICE and hybrid Land Cruisers.

Reports also suggest a possible range-extender option, supported by the cooling intake on the front bumper.

The current most potent Land Cruiser is the self-charging hybrid variant of the Series 300, producing 457 hp and 790 Nm from a twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6 and a single electric motor.
