"Our hearts are with his family, fellow service members, classmates, and all who knew and loved Tyler as we mourn this profound loss together," said Mindy Benson, president of Southern Utah University.
Local officials in Texas also paid tribute to Gonzales following confirmation of her death in the line of duty.
"She gave her life in that service, and our district is heartbroken by her loss," said the Lewisville Independent School District in a public statement.
US leadership emphasized that retaliatory strikes were launched specifically to address the loss of American lives at the Jordanian facility.
