Hansma stated that Van Overeem requested the transfer multiple times to work closer to home, returning to the team he previously represented between 2018 and 2022 following his transfer last summer from Maccabi Tel Aviv.
"I am returning as a more complete player, with more experience and a better foundation," said Van Overeem on FC Utrecht's official website.
"Over the past four years, I have learned what it takes to be a leader and to play for trophies."
Heerenveen is scheduled to complete its pre-season preparations on August 1 with a friendly match against Greek side Volos FC at 3:00 PM for the Simmer Cup.

The Greek club was brought in after a previously scheduled fixture against Wolverhampton Wanderers was canceled due to away fan restrictions.
