“I had two scholarships from Howard University. I had an 11,000 scholarship and a $16,000 scholarship that was directly from them.

And then I had originally it was $13,000 that I had to pay off, but it was actually 12,000 because they let you waive your health insurance,” said Williams.

While her account balance was later restored, Williams expressed disappointment regarding administrative communication with students.

“They stated that there was no way for us to come back, and that they suggested that we come back for another semester as a transfer student.

And they gave a little bit of information about how to get scholarship reimbursement in the near future.

Now, this was confusing for a multitude of reasons,” said Williams.

She emphasized that students had worked hard to gain admission and secure their funding. “They had everything that they needed.

I've actually had a few of my scholarship committees reach out to them, trying to give the money to my account, and they haven't gotten a response.

It's been weeks.”

Recently, Williams said she got her classes back, but many others have not.

“I'm just gracious and lucky enough that I was able to get my classes, but now I don't have any of my scholarships,” said Williams.

Williams noted her long-standing family connection to the institution, which pushed her to advocate for her position. “Howard runs deep in my family.

A lot of my family has been there. Back in 2001, one of my uncles actually was a vice provost at the school.
