Why are you failing school? Why are you fighting?’"

Mason explained.

As a young child, he found the contrast between his father's public personality and private life confusing, especially following the major success of Jerry Maguire shortly after Mason was born.

"At the time, I didn’t really understand that relationship, cause I was like, ‘you’re so positive and charismatic in these interviews, and then you come home and it’s a different guy,’ and I didn’t get that correlation or lack thereof," Mason stated.

When fellow actors on set ask him for advice on parenting while working in Hollywood, Gooding shares a consistent perspective.

"How do I not f--- up my child?" Mason recounted being asked.

He urges famous parents to remain mindful of how their public image affects their families.

"You recognize — I would hope one would recognize — their public persona as being capable of being consumed by their child the same way an audience does," Mason advised.

He emphasized that kids process the difference between an on-screen identity and real life.

"It’s just understanding that that dissonance between who I get at home and who you are on camera will actually be a factor in how I parse out our relationship moving forward," Mason said.

Alongside his new home and personal reflections, Gooding continues building his screen career.

He recently starred as the groom in the Netflix comedy 72 Hours alongside Kevin Hart and Marcello Hernández.

"Mason is the emotional bedrock of his friend group," Gooding said, describing his character. "[He] hopes for the best for everyone he surrounds himself with."

Working on the film allowed him to collaborate with top comedic talent in a fast-paced environment.

"I was able to enjoy a stand-up routine pretty much every time I stepped on set," Gooding shared.

"That’s both in watching incredibly talented comedians navigate hilarious circumstances in an authentically hilarious way, and being treated to some of the funniest green-room banter I’ve ever had the pleasure of experiencing."
