Policy experts pointed to economic market structures that prioritize raw material extraction over sustainable recycling practices.
"As long as new raw materials from destructive mining are cheaper than recycling, many manufacturers will continue to take the easier path," said Michael Reckordt, Policy Advisor for German and European Resource Policy at PowerShift.
"The better solutions have long been available. What is missing are political rules that finally make recycling and resource-saving technologies the standard."
