Polish military radar detected the incoming object around 3:40 AM local time.
An F-16 fighter jet was briefly scrambled, and a search helicopter deployed after the object vanished from radar.
Local residents reported hearing a loud explosion at approximately 4:00 AM. Police discovered the crash site an hour later.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk addressed the situation during an emergency meeting in Lublin after discussions with European partners.
"All the indications are that it was a Russian Kh-101 ballistic missile, but we want to be 100% certain about the type of missile and who launched it," Tusk said.

The incident occurred shortly after Tusk met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Lublin.
Airstrikes across the border in Ukraine caused eight fatalities and triggered air raid sirens in neighboring Polish towns.
Ukraine's acting Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha confirmed the missile trajectory during the overnight bombardment.
He stated it "crossed into Poland as part of Russia's massive strike against Ukraine, violating Nato airspace."
Polish Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz said military tracking identified nearly 20 objects near Polish airspace overnight.

Specialist teams are performing pyrotechnical analysis at the crash site to verify the missile's origin.
