A 2019 Porsche 911 GT2 RS has just become the first example of its kind to publicly sell for seven figures.

The car changed hands on Bring a Trailer earlier this week for exactly $1 million.

The 991-generation GT2 RS remains highly sought after despite the imminent arrival of a new model. Collectors are clearly willing to pay a premium for the outgoing generation.

Why This GT2 RS Commanded $1 Million

Two key factors drove the price to this milestone.

The car has been driven just 593 miles (954 km) since new, making it effectively a time capsule.

It also comes equipped with the $18,000 Weissach Package, which adds lightweight components and carbon-fiber parts.

This particular example is finished in a Paint to Sample shade of Viola Purple Metallic, a rare and striking color.

Limited-edition Porsches in flamboyant colors have been fetching strong prices on the used market, as buyers seek out unique specifications.

The purple paint likely played a significant role in the final bid.

The car was sold with the owner's manual, a car cover, a clean Carfax report, and a clean New York title.

Inside, the carbon-fiber bucket seats feature purple and white center inserts, though the purple does not exactly match the exterior paint.

Given the extremely low mileage, the cabin is in pristine condition.

Under the rear decklid sits the familiar 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged flat-six, producing 700 hp and 553 lb-ft (750 Nm) of torque.

Before the latest 911 Turbo S arrived with its hybrid powertrain, the GT2 RS was the most powerful Porsche on sale for nearly a decade.

Until an all-new GT2 RS lands, it will likely remain the quickest Porsche around a racetrack as well.
