The victory completed a series sweep for Boston, their second sweep of the 2026 season.

Kansas City struck first in the opening inning when Salvador Pérez launched a 379-foot home run to left field off Boston starter Connelly Early.
Boston answered in the second inning to take a temporary lead. Nick Sogard singled to right field, scoring Willson Contreras, and Ceddanne Rafaela advanced to third.
Rafaela later scored when Omar Narváez grounded into a double play, putting the Red Sox ahead 2-1.
The Royals regained the lead in the fifth inning.
Yainer Díaz hit a 405-foot home run to left-center field, driving in Noelvi Marte to make it 3-2 Kansas City.
Duran's decisive blast came in the seventh inning.

With Narváez on base, he sent a 366-foot home run to left field, giving Boston a 4-3 advantage.
The hit extended Duran's hot streak, as he is now 5-for-14 with four extra-base hits over his last four games.
Early earned the win, allowing three runs over five innings. The left-handed rookie has surrendered more than three runs only once in nine starts this season.
Boston's bullpen held the lead, improving the team's record to 19-0 when leading after seven innings.
The pitching staff has allowed two or fewer earned runs in 13 of 17 games this month.
Michael Wacha took the loss for the Royals, giving up four runs.
Wacha, who pitched for Boston in 2022, fell to 3-1 in his career against his former team.
