Oklahoma City Thunder guard Ajay Mitchell sustained a potential right quad strain late in Game 2 of the Western Conference Finals on Wednesday, May 20, 2026.

The injury raises concerns about his availability for the rest of the series against the San Antonio Spurs.

Mitchell hurt himself during a play under the rim and immediately sought treatment from the medical staff on the bench.

He missed the final two possessions but the Thunder still secured a 122-113 victory to tie the series at 1-1.

Injury Details and Recovery Timeline

Medical experts noted the potential severity based on Mitchell's initial reaction.

Dr. Evan Jeffries, a sports doctor and NBA injury insider, wrote on X: "Ajay Mitchell left tonight's game with a right leg injury.

He seems to be grabbing his right quad. Concern would be for a strain."

According to data from Pliability, a Grade 1 quad strain typically requires one to three weeks of recovery.

Such a timeline would rule Mitchell out for the rest of the Western Conference Finals.

Before exiting, Mitchell contributed 10 points, two assists, and four steals in 28 minutes off the bench.

His absence further depletes the Thunder's guard rotation after starter Jalen Williams left the same game with a left hamstring injury in the first quarter.

Williams had previously aggravated that hamstring during the first round against the Phoenix Suns, causing him to miss the entire second-round series against the Los Angeles Lakers.

Mitchell filled in seamlessly against the Lakers, averaging 22.1 points per game as a secondary ball handler alongside Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.

With both guards potentially unavailable, Oklahoma City will rely more heavily on Alex Caruso, Jared McCain, Cason Wallace, Chet Holmgren, and Isaiah Hartenstein to contain Victor Wembanyama.
