New Jersey Devils defenseman Simon Nemec has found himself at the center of trade rumors after overseas reports claimed he requested an immediate move from the organization.
The 22-year-old restricted free agent completed his entry-level contract as the Devils finished 42-37-3 under head coach Sheldon Keefe.

Reports from Slovak journalist Simon Cop alleged that Nemec demanded a trade and that new General Manager Sunny Mehta had not contacted the player or his agent, Craig Oster.
However, a source told New Jersey Hockey Now that Mehta has maintained communication with both Nemec and his agent, contradicting the claims of a front-office disconnect.
Nemec previously faced similar departure rumors in February 2025, which he attributed to an inaccurate translation of his personal frustrations regarding his on-ice performance.
"Yeah, I mean, first thing it was a bad translation," Nemec told New Jersey Hockey Now at the time.
He clarified that his comments reflected high self-expectations rather than a desire to leave the franchise.
"I was unhappy with myself because I was expecting more from myself," he said.

Nemec dismissed the speculation by confirming his comfort with the organization. "It's too early [for something like that]," he said, adding, "I mean, everything's fine."
During end-of-season evaluations, Nemec expressed his long-term intentions: "I'd love to sign here."
The trade speculation follows a season where Nemec recorded 11 goals and 26 points across 68 games, showcasing transition growth despite a minus-11 rating and struggles in defensive zone exits.
According to data from Devils on the Rush, Nemec ranked in the seventh percentile for zone exits and the 11th percentile in exit success rate, mirroring broader team transition difficulties.
The Devils front office, which recently added Braden Birch as assistant general manager, faces roster adjustments to improve defensive mobility.
Analysts suggested Anaheim Ducks defenseman Olen Zellweger as a potential target, noting he ranked in the 98th percentile for carry exits.
