Stoke City has appointed Stuart Harvey as the club's new technical director, effective Friday, May 22, 2026.

The 45-year-old Northern Irishman will oversee broad football operations under a major backroom restructuring at the bet365 Stadium.

Harvey will report directly to Sporting Director Jonathan Walters, managing first-team coaching, recruitment, analytics, administration, medical performance, the women's first team, and youth academies.

He joins after four years as head of player recruitment at Sunderland, where he helped the club rise from League One to the Premier League.

Harvey left Sunderland earlier this season during a backroom overhaul.

Before Sunderland, Harvey spent six years in various scouting and recruitment roles at Blackburn Rovers.

The restructuring also includes recent arrivals Damian Roden as head of medical and Jack Higgins as academy director.

The club has also been linked with Portsmouth manager John Mousinho.

Walters praised Harvey's reputation, stating: "Stuart is a highly respected operator in the game, who most recently played a much-valued role in Sunderland's journey to the Premier League."

He added that Harvey's knowledge and experience have been built across multiple clubs and environments, and that he understands the standards needed to drive success.

"This appointment is another important step as we continue to strengthen the football club in all areas," Walters said.

"Stuart's arrival shows the ambition and commitment to keep moving the club forward and give us the best possible platform to be successful on the pitch."
