Former Boston Red Sox pitcher Roger Clemens made a memorable return to Fenway Park on Friday, May 22, 2026.

He threw out the ceremonial first pitch to his son, Minnesota Twins outfielder Kody Clemens, before the series opener.

The event was part of a promotional bobblehead night honoring the elder Clemens.

He spent 13 seasons with the Red Sox, winning 192 games with a 3.06 ERA and 2,590 strikeouts, along with three of his seven Cy Young Awards.

It was the first time Roger Clemens threw a ceremonial first pitch to Kody, who is in his fifth major league season.

The entire Clemens family was in Boston for the celebration.

"A little two-seamer, didn't slip, didn't tear anything," Clemens said. "Home plate seems to get further and further away every year, I don't know what that's about."

Before the game, Clemens spoke with current Boston pitchers. He specifically praised rookie left-hander Payton Tolle, noting his size and fastball movement.

"It's been a fun day," Clemens added. "Always good to come back."

Clemens wore a green Fenway jersey and a white hat with his former number 21.

No Red Sox player has worn that number since his departure after the 1996 season.

When asked about the possibility of his number being retired, Clemens said, "I don't have any control over that but I had 13 wonderful years here.

I love the number, I thought it was really cool when I came out of Texas that they had it hanging in my locker.
