Two-time NASCAR champion Kyle Busch died Thursday at age 41 in Charlotte, North Carolina, after severe pneumonia quickly progressed into life-threatening sepsis, according to a family statement released Saturday.
The veteran driver passed away at a Charlotte hospital on Thursday, one day after losing consciousness inside a Chevrolet simulator while preparing for the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Medical evaluations confirmed that the sudden death resulted from rapid complications triggered by the severe respiratory illness.
A 911 dispatch audio log revealed that Busch experienced shortness of breath, severe overheating, and was coughing up blood on the bathroom floor of the simulator complex the day before he died.
Dakota Hunter, vice-president of Kyle Busch Companies, issued the official medical summary on behalf of the family.
"The medical evaluation provided to the Busch Family concluded that severe pneumonia progressed into sepsis, resulting in rapid and overwhelming associated complications," Hunter said.
Emergency personnel noted that a caller at the scene maintained composure while describing the emergency to first responders.
"I've got an individual that's [got] shortness of breath, very hot, thinks he's going to pass out, and is producing a little bit of blood, coughing up some blood," said an unidentified caller.
Public figures and political leaders offered tributes to the record-breaking driver.
"A true talent who loved NASCAR and its fans. Kyle was a WINNER!"
said Donald Trump.
