The Dodgers initially sent left-hander Alex Vesia to the mound in the ninth inning with a two-run lead.
Vesia retired two of three batters before the Rockies countered with right-handed pinch hitter Braxton Fulford.
Los Angeles then brought in Treinen, who needed only four pitches to strike out Fulford and end the game.
Tanner Scott, the primary closer with Edwin Diaz sidelined by an elbow injury, was likely unavailable after pitching on the previous two days.
