Monroe and Summerfield Secure Spots in Regional Baseball Finals

Monroe and Summerfield have advanced to the Regional championship baseball games after winning their semifinal matchups on Wednesday, June 3.

The two Monroe County Region teams will compete for titles on Saturday, while New Boston Huron and St. Mary Catholic Central saw their seasons end with losses.

Monroe Shuts Out Livonia Franklin

Monroe extended its postseason streak with a 5-0 shutout victory over Livonia Franklin in Saline. The win pushed the team's record above .

500 to 18-17, after entering the state tournament with a losing record.

Summerfield Powers Past Dansville

Summerfield secured its advancement in Petersburg with a 12-2 victory against Dansville. Josh Horak led the Bulldogs with a single, double, and triple, recording three runs batted in.

"That was awesome, exactly what we needed," said Summerfield coach Reid Olmstead.

The Bulldogs bring a 17-7 record into the Regional finals against Kalamazoo Hackett, scheduled for Saturday, June 6 at Spring Arbor College.

New Boston Huron Edged by Tecumseh

In Adrian, Tecumseh scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning to defeat New Boston Huron 4-3.

The loss ended the second-ranked Chiefs' season at 31-6, despite Huron leaving the tying and winning runs on base in the final frame.

"All throughout the game we had runners in scoring position, but didn't get that big hit," said Huron coach Phil Yancey.

St. Mary Catholic Central Falls to Plymouth Christian

St. Mary Catholic Central built an early four-run lead in Plymouth, scoring three runs in the first inning and one in the second.

However, the Falcons lost 12-6 to defending Division 4 state runner-up Plymouth Christian.

"It was tough," said SMCC coach Jared Janssed. "We had the lead early, but we had too many walks.

Obviously, it was not our day."

The Falcons surrendered six runs in the bottom of the second inning and an additional six runs in the sixth inning to seal the defeat.
