Owners of the new BMW iX3 could receive an electric shock while charging their vehicle.
The German automaker has issued two recalls for the electric SUV, one of which involves a potentially dangerous defect with the onboard charger.

The first recall, announced at the end of May, covers 145 iX3s built between November 25, 2025, and February 20, 2026.
According to BMW, the onboard charger—which converts AC power to DC—may be faulty.
This defect can cause the SUV's body panels to become electrified while the car is plugged in.
BMW stated that it is not aware of any injuries related to the issue, but acknowledged that owners could receive a nasty shock if they touch the car at the wrong moment.
The fix involves replacing the onboard chargers on all affected models, regardless of whether they are actually defective.

The recall affects 145 vehicles worldwide, with 28 of those located in Germany.
Second Recall for Side Airbags
A few days later, on June 1, BMW issued a second recall for the iX3. This time, the side airbags may not have been bolted to specification.
The concern is that the airbag might not deploy properly in a crash, and the gas generator could shift out of position and strike occupants.
The affected vehicles were built between December 18, 2025, and May 8, 2026. This recall is larger, covering 4,843 vehicles worldwide, including 1,071 in Germany.

As with the charger issue, no accidents or injuries have been reported. BMW will inspect the screws holding the side airbags and resolve any problems if necessary.
