The Washington Nationals scored three runs against reliever Keaton Winn in the ninth inning to secure a 4-3 comeback victory over the San Francisco Giants during their series opener at rainy Oracle Park on Monday night.

The late-game surge spoiled an eight-inning masterpiece by San Francisco starting pitcher Logan Webb, who struck out seven batters and allowed only one run on 99 pitches.

Winn entered the ninth inning protecting a 3-1 lead after pitching for a third consecutive day.

He allowed a double to Luis García Jr. and hit Curtis Mead with a pitch, before both base runners advanced on a passed ball and scored on a game-tying single by CJ Abrams.

Daylen Lile then drove a soft single up the middle to bring Abrams home, putting Washington ahead permanently.

The Giants had previously claimed the lead in the bottom of the eighth inning when outfielder Jung Hoo Lee hit a single and rookie Bryce Eldridge drove him in with a double down the left-field line.

Rookie Jonah Cox then executed a successful suicide squeeze bunt to score Eldridge for an insurance run.

Lee finished the night going 4-for-5 with two runs scored, extending his active hitting streak to 16 consecutive games.

His current stretch marks the longest hitting streak by a San Francisco player since 2020.

Washington broke a scoreless tie in the top of the sixth inning when James Wood singled, stole second base, and reached home on an RBI single by García.

San Francisco answered in the bottom of the frame when Matt Chapman lined a game-tying RBI single off left-hander Mitchell Parker after the Nationals pulled starter Miles Mikolas with two outs.

The loss prevented San Francisco from capitalizing on a late two-run advantage and dropped the Giants to a 27-40 record.
