The United States becomes the second nation to officially advance from the group stage, following fellow Concacaf side Mexico.
Early Pressure Forces Own Goal
The scoring started when a probing run by an American attacker forced an early defensive error from Australia, resulting in an own goal.
American striker Folarin Balogun highlighted the importance of the opening sequence. "I want to be dangerous; I want to create opportunities," Balogun said.
"It might not always be myself that scores, but if I can force an error that gives us the lead, then for me it's like a goal as well."
