The Egyptian national football team advanced past the World Cup group stages for the first time following a 1-1 draw against Iran in Seattle on Friday.

The result secured Egypt's progression while leaving Iran dependent on subsequent weekend results to qualify as one of the best third-place finishers.

According to Al Jazeera, Egypt withstood a late offensive from Iran, which included a disallowed goal by VAR for offside and a saved penalty in the first half.

The event in Seattle had been designated as a Pride Match to celebrate diversity, proceeding despite prior complaints from the football federations of both Egypt and Iran.

Supporters of the Egyptian team celebrated the historic qualification extensively outside the stadium after the final whistle.

"The feeling is outstanding," said Daniel Salib, an Egypt supporter.

"After this game, and the game we played against New Zealand, and how we played against Belgium, we absolutely deserve it.

So, I couldn't be more proud of this country and this team."

Meanwhile, Iranian fans expressed mixed emotions regarding the final score and the political demonstrations that occurred outside the venue, where anti-government protesters gathered.

"The Iranian team did a beautiful job.

They faced a lot of hardship, but we're really happy how they played," said Saeed Nassef, an Iran supporter.

Nassef, who carried the official Iranian flag, noted that fans faced harassment from opposition activists holding alternative flags and photos.

"We're here to support the team.
